PHP and Arabic
There are quite a few ‘obstacles’ when programming anything with a language like Arabic, another character set, the orientation of the script are 2 of those obstacles which are fairly easy to solve.
But getting good results from an online dictionary is a lot more complicated. Because of the prefixes and suffixes, it is, especially for new learners, difficult to know or to guess which is the actual word.
Fortunately, we can use Khaled Al-Sham’aa’s fantastic libraries to solve many of those problems.
We have already integrated some of the functionalities.
Right now, we use Khaled’s library to drop the definite article and to correct some typos, like using ‘ya’ instead of ‘alif maqsura’ for example.
The libraries have many more functionalities and we are still working at making the search easier for you.

News about the dictionary
You might not notice many changes at the moment but we are working very hard in the background.
We are adding the sound files, so that you can hear the pronunciation in High Arabic.
We are also improving the search results, preparing a help file on how to use the dictionary and much more....
As soon as all this will be done, we will start adding more words again, so stay with us and as always, you can send us a mail if you have a request or if you want to suggest a word for the dictionary.

About the Verb Tables
We would like to thank Dr. Nabil Osman very much for allowing us to use the verb tables from his book:
Konjugationslexikon arabischer Verben
The book is an invaluable help for learners of Arabic as are the other books written by Dr. Osman.
Although it is written in German, we think that it can be used by people from all languages because the tables are clearly organised and provide a very structured introduction to all the possibilities of conjugating the Arabic verb.

Verbs and broken plurals
Verbs and broken plurals seem to cause the most problems for learners of arabic... We integrate the plurals, and it is possible to search them. Some words have several plurals.
The verb tables are growing, you can click on the main forms and find all the verbs with the same conjugation, each verb also has a link to the table of conjugation for this particular verb form.

Dictionary of the words from Speak Arabic Quickly
Here, we will put all the words which are contained in the daily sentences.
The dictionary is still not functioning very well, sort of buggy... but you can look for the words anyway.
If you want to help us, please send us a mail, when something goes wrong or if you have a great idea you would like to tell us. We'll be working at it as quickly as we can, fixing the bugs and hopefully adding functionality
